Ballet Folklorico de Mexico

Why see Ballet Folklorico de Mexico?

Founded in 1952 by dancer, dance teacher and choreographer Amalia Hernandez, the Ballet Folklorico De Mexico is one of Mexico's finest cultural exports. Although it has its roots as a very small, touring dance company, today the Ballet Folklorico De Mexico is comprised of the School of the Ballet Folklorico located in Mexico City and has seen over 25,000 students pass through its doors.

The dance and musical styles are created to be reflective of Mexico's many different regions, folklore traditions and folk music genres, and each performance often involves elaborate costume and set designs. Though Amalia Hernandez passed away in 2000, the school is run by her daughter Norma Lopez Hernandez and grandson Salvador Lopez.
