Beautiful Underlying Story

Prior to seeing this show, I was not familiar with Matilda (books, movie or musical) and I loved it! The musical is incredibly catchy, yet the ballads are haunting. Staging was really cool -- used projection screens to transform into different locations and even different time periods. An incredibly complex show technically and choreographically, and the ensemble managed it flawlessly. The show is appropriate for all ages, but ironically, it may connect more for adults, on a sentimental level. Standout performers were Sean Fortunato (Miss Trunchbull), Jackson Evans (Mr Wormwood), Stephanie Gibson (Mrs Wormwood), Alex Benoit (Rudolpho), Andrew MacNaughton (Doctor/Sergei), Joshua Zingerman (Bruce) and of course Audrey Edwards (Matilda). Highly recommended! ... Read more

TERRIFIC SHOW!

This version of Matilda is true to the book which means it's quirky, dark, Roald Dahl kind of humor. It's amazing to watch such young kids hold their own alongside more seasoned adult actors. Good music, engaging story, impressive choreography, beautiful sets and costumes, ample laughs...it's a good, fun show that is definitely worth the trip to Oak Brook. I especially liked Matilda and the rest of the Wormwood family, but the Trunchbull and Miss Honey were terrific, too. I saw the show with my wife and we already plan to see it again with our children. ... Read more
