Described by Dostoyevsky as a 'flawless work of art' Leo Tolstoy's sweeping epic of desire, forbidden love, jealousy and rage still resonates across the world today as evidenced by this exciting new world award-winning adaptation by Yuri Possohkov for the Joffrey Ballet, with costumes and sets by Emmy-Award winning designer Tom Pye.
Telling the tale of the spirited Countess Anna and her salacious affair with the handsome Count Vronksy, it encompasses many themes, including morality and societal pressure as their passion burns brightly before igniting into an explosive and unforgettable finale. Much like Tolstoy's sprawling masterpiece War and Peace, Anna Karenina is a finely wrought saga that transports the reader (or the viewer) into a bustling saga that captures every human emotion with biting drama and pursed wit over monumental landscape; making it perfect fodder for the medium of ballet.
In addition to Possohkov's choreography, the production will feature a score from Illya Demutsky, with design from Tom Pye and lighting design from David Finn.
