From the Joffrey Ballet's magical Nutcracker to the Goodman's annual Christmas Carol, the Holiday Season is a time when Chicago's theatre offerings really shine! A perfect way to keep the cold away by staying cosy inside the theatre, watching something brand new or perhaps your favorite show for the third time.

1. JOFFREY BALLET - THE NUTCRACKER
Few Holiday traditions can match the charm and magic of The Nutcracker ballet, loved all over the world for its sumptuous sets and costumes, and the unforgettable score by Tchaikovsky. In Chicago, the annual production by the city's Joffrey Ballet is a season highlight for families from near and far!
The previous Joffrey version ran for many years, becoming the Number One Chicago Christmas tradition. In 2016 a brand new version took to the stage, breathing new life to a production that has been delighting families and fans since 1987! Chicago's beautiful Auditorium Theatre plays host to this much-loved Holiday tale which pays homage to the city and its inhabitants. Truly a Nutcracker made just for Chicago!

2. A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Another unmissable Chicago tradition is the annual production of the Goodman's A Christmas Carol. If ballet isn't your thing, then this classic Christmas tale should be your Holiday go-to! Since its debut in 1978, millions of Chicagoans - adults and children alike - have been thrilled by this timeless tale of Scrooge and his voyage into Christmas past, present, and future.
It takes place at the Goodman's city-centre Albert Goodman Theater, so is perfectly located for pre- or post-theatre drinks and dinner, or perhaps even some Christmas shopping in the city if you book a matinee.

3. CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - MERRY, MERRY CHICAGO
For something a bit more traditional, visit Chicago's spectacular Symphony Centre for a night of Holiday sounds courtesy of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. And if you're trying to impress someone, why not treat them to a fine-dinning dinner beforehand at the in-house Opus restaurant. This year's program is set to feature all your favorite holiday songs. From the classic carols to the iconic festive chart-toppers, there is something for everyone!

4. IRVING BERLIN'S WHITE CHRISTMAS
Another Holiday classic is gracing the stage in Chicago this year - that's right, it's none other than Irving Berlin's ever-popular White Christmas. This uplifting story and its selection of beloved songs has made White Christmas a family favorite for generation. You'll have to be quick though if you want to see if for yourself, it's in town for less than a week!

5. TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE...
A BRAND NEW Cirque shows premieres in Chicago! There's no doubt that this is one of the most exciting productions on this Holiday Season on Chicago. International entertainment masters Cirque Du Soleil are bringing their brand new show to Chicago! Twas The Night Before is the company's 49th production, and is an homage to all things Christmas - wrapped up with a certain cirque flare that only they can bring!
Expect dazzling technical effects paired with incredible costumes and daring acts as Cirque unveils their unique take on the Christmas classic! You'll also find out what really happens the night before Christmas... well, through Cirque's eyes!
