David Sedaris
While I have been a fan of his books forever and have enjoyed watching him through clips from media coverage, I wondered what will he do on stage live? Will he read from his various books, take questions from the audience? Who cares I thought just go...well it was a spectacular, engaging, thought provoking evening filled with so much deep burst out laughing, gasps of OMG did he just say that??? and moments laced with tenderness. I absolutely LOVED the whole evening. He is brilliant and has such a wonderful combination of skills, with a gigantic capacity to touch the human spirit. Highly recommend.
Loved It.
I am so glad I bought a ticket to see him... I had tears (of laughter) streaming down my cheeks throughout some of his material. I was sorry to read a couple of the comments from other audience members that mentioned they were unable to hear him well; when he initially started speaking, I, too, struggled a bit to hear him, but I think the sound crew made an adjustment... not a significant one, but just enough that I wasn't straining to hear him; I would have gotten up and gone directly to the sound board to let them know if I wasn't able to, and it's too bad they didn't. The writer who opened for him was wonderful, and I'm now trying to locate her name on the internet; her writing had me crying I was laughing so hard one moment, to weeping from sadness, and all within the space of 5-10 minutes -- that's a powerful skillset she has. I had a wonderful time at this performance, and I look forward to his return to Boston in the years to come! :)
David Sedaris Clairvoyant !
David is a Treasure of Real. Satirist, Comedian, Brilliant, on and on. Twists one's mind, opens it, scares it. laughs it ! Arlington a great venue with restaurants nearby, parking easy. Love seeing David Sedaris there.
Sedaris Spot On! Sound System Poor Quality!
Boston Symphony Hall, seat location, second balcony right, seats 38 & 39 A (Basically front row of second balcony, center) David’s performance was on point! Criticisms of site lines one has to take lightly since the venue is a concert hall. The unfortunate situation, that really detracted from the performance, was the horrible sound system. For the first half of the performance, one could barely understand one out of every three words, the volume needed to be much higher just to hear the show clearly.
David Sedaris State Theater
David was signing books before the show (and after). The show started 15 minutes late and he introduced a local writing master's program student and allowed her to read her story early in his program. Read essays he'd written over the summer, audience laughed a lot.
When does the venue damage the performance?
Last evening, we sat in the 4th floor balcony to see a dot on the stage that claimed to be David Sedaris. It may have worn a tux and tails because it said so. I think it drank water every now and then. David Sedaris should take a hard look at his booking agency because the Auditorium Theater is a middle finger in the eye, and ear, of anyone thinking they are actually going to see, and hear a performer. Seeing David Sedaris at the Auditorium Theater was like listening to an audiobook on the Matterhorn. But with less of a view.
