Absolutely loved the magic of this ballet. Not a classic ballet. The opening dance was awe inspiring. The energy, singing, choreography and dancing were amazing. I would absolutely recommend seeing this.

I just watched the Joffrey Ballet’s production of Midsummer Night’s Dream! (Bought a 2nd row ticket last night at the spur of the moment!) I absolutely LOVED it; Although I had no idea what the plot was, I had the best time watching the great looking and talented cast transport me with then into their surreal dreamland of flying beds, flying fish, upside down pine trees and a cast bursting at the seams with pretty young women and hot lean muscley mens!!! I would definitely watch this again!!! Note: this ballet isn’t for kids —they will not understand nor appreciate its avant garde presentation. Plus their parents might not like the tight flesh colored tights the cast wears in the 2nd half!

If I could could give this “ballet” zero stars….I would. It was not a ballet. It was grotesque. I’ve been steadily more and more disappointed in the Joffrey’s adaptations on classical ballets ever since they changed the Nutcracker. I have given them chance after chance over the years to be better, to do actual ballet, but this was the final chance. This was horrifying and even worse, there were children in attendance. Shame on you, Joffrey.

A few months ago we saw the Joffrey performance of “Studies in Blue” and were blown away by the magnificent dancing, artistry and stagecraft. We immediately went home and ordered tickets to today’s performance of a Midsummer Nights Dream. We were greatly disappointed. The show alternated between segments that were confusing, bizarre, boring, and tedious. So sad to see such talented dancers flailing about and unable to display their talents … reference the “conga-line-esque” sequence where two lines bump into each other. For us the ‘dream’ was more of a nightmare.

What a disappointment

I was prepared to love this Joffrey offering. I was prepared to hear Mendelsohn's music.. I was looking forward to seeing Puck and the play within a ballet. WAS I DISAPPOINTED!!! The music was not by Mendelsohn. The title was stolen from Shakespeare under false pretenses. Was there talent on the stage? YES. Was there a story line? Who knows?NOT ME. I kept thinking, what is going on??? And at around $150.00 a ticket, I expected more. I have seen brilliant offerings of the Joffrey Ballet. This is definitely not one of those. Save your money, rent a ballet film.

This was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. The title alone left me disappointed in the show as soon as it started l. The best part of the ballet was the opening dance. The rest left me so unbelievably disappointed both in the play itself and the Joffrey ballet as a company. I will never endorse, or attend another ballet by this company. I saw mothers with children expecting to see a timeless classic, and found absolute bulge and left at intermission. I wish I would have been smart enough to follow.
