Def Leppard and Pretenders slayed, Journey meh

The show at Wrigley Field 7/14/18 needed more Pretenders and less Journey. Chrissie Hynde was badass, but the set WAY too short. No "Brass In Pocket"? Really? Journey clearly hasn't sorted out their sound issue. And, to mirror everyone else here, WAY too many solos that felt like ways to give the other old dudes a rest between songs, not even remotely cool save a truly mesmerizing turn from Steve Smith on drums. They kinda-sora re-energized the crowd for the last 3 songs (Wheel In The Sky, Faithfully, Don't Stop Believing), but overall it felt like a tired, overwrought karaoke show. Props to Pineda for being a good Steve Perry impersonator, but these guys really need to hang it up. DEF LEPPARD WAS A REVELATION: the energy, an amazing light show, all the hits, and the crowd was INTO IT. This is what people come to a rock and roll show for. OUTSTANDING.

They All Brought The Goods: Steve Miller, Journey, and Def Leppard

On an extremely hot night at Fenway Park, Steve Miller, Journey, and Def Leppard were all fantastic. Unlike previous shows reviewed, all three acts had great sound boards and mixers. Steve struggled a little with his voice at times, but he's almost 80 so I give him a pass. His band was awesome. I was surprised to see mostly bad reviews of Journey in their recent shows, but they were on point tonight, with Arnel hitting all of the high notes, excellent sound throughout, and an enjoyable mix of Neil's (still amazing) guitar solos. They played all of the hits, the crowd sung along, and was very enthusiastic. Any Way You Want It was the pinnacle of the show for me. Def Leppard blew the doors off the park! Highlights included Rock of Ages, Armageddon It, Bringin' On the Heartache, and Photograph. Joe Elliot noted in the middle of their set that he had been fighting a respiratory virus for the past 30 hours and almost cancelled the show, but he was in fine voice and carried on like a champ. He had fantastic backing by his two stellar guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell, and Rick Allen was clearly having a great time pounding out the beats with his (one) arm and feet! The mostly acoustic set in the middle of the show seemed to be the place for Joe to regain his voice, which he succeeded in doing. He thanked the crowd for being "special." It was a great night!

Steve Miller and Def Leppard: spectacular: great sound, great interactions with audience.great musical show voice and instrumentally wonderful. Journey: huge disappointment. Everything was turned up to a loudest of loud, too many guitar solos no one wanted to hear. Band and equalizers up so loud it was extremely difficult to even understand the screaming *new lead singer Arnel Pineda. He had a punky awful, trying to hard to be popular stage presence that didn’t work at all. We heard great things about him and it was just awful. I don’t know if he was having an off night, as we had never heard him before, but bring Steve Perry back! Totally understand why Steve wouldn’t want to be around the self indulgent over playing of the guitar solos…annoying. Just sing the songs! And it was embarassingly awful. We left after a few songs because we were afraid our ear drums were going to be damaged between the loud volume of everything on stage and the atrocious singing, I mean yelling .

Steve Miller and Def Leppard =awesome,;Journey: AWFUL

July 23, 2024: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia: Super excited to see Steve Miller, Journey and Def Leppard…. Steve miller started promptly at 6, sounded great, musicianship was spot on, really enjoyed his show. Next up Journey. SUPER LOUD, all volumes equalizers up on high, super annoying loud, drown out your singer loud… could barely understand journeys *newish singer that we had heard really great things about. Volume never equalized where you could hear the singer, so of course he needs to scream the lyrics to even barely be heard. Then he kept referring to the concert goers as Phillies .umm no, no baseball today…ughh we walked out after about 4/5 songs. Too loud with ear plugs couldn’t understand the singer at all, his stage presence was like an annoying drugged out punk. Over done. UGHHHH. I’m sorry I spent good money on a journey tshirt. I want my money back. Maybe will use for kindling for a fire… DEF LEPPARD= awesome! Journey stunk like a nasty poop filled baby diaper.

Journey probably did one of their best shows that I've seen before and my family loved them. Def Leppard was also amazing but they were noticeably louder than Journey. Poor Steve Miller Band opened directly into the 6:00 pm sunlight and after about the first three songs was struggling as he wore his jacket in the 90+ heat. Only drawback that will keep me from going back is the 18.00 beer, 13.00 hot dog, 75.00 parking, and 6.00 water. You cant take a family any more. Ill just enjoy my CD's

Overall great show. Def Leppard's show had lots of energy, great visuals, and the band sounded very tight. As far as the other two, Journey and Cheap Trick not sure what was going on. I've heard Cheap Trick fairly recent and they were great. Not tonight. Combination of poor sound quality I believe had a lot to do with it. At points you couldn't hear vocals and certainly instruments. Just an all around BAD mix. As for Journey Neil Schone still has it and the rest of the bad was great. I feel the same bad mix contributed to their portion also.
