The performance of Schubert's Mass by Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will likely figure on best-of lists. Muti and his CSO forces put across the heaven-storming drama as much as the moments of consolation and spiritual introspection

Riccardo Muti Conducts Schubert's Final Mass
Considered one of Schubert's finest Church compositions, Schubert's Mass in E Major was composed in the final months of his extraordinary life. As such, little is known about its origins, but many hold the belief that is a exquisitely crafted statement of his belief in an afterlife, a requiem of sorts.
Resident music director and conducting legend Riccardo Muti leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, as well as a host of solo vocalists, through Schubert's soaring melodies and dazzling harmonic colour, taking pride of place in this varied program.
The ensemble will also perform Weber's splendid opera Overture To Oberon and the exciting world premiere of Raimi's Three Lisel Mueller Settings, a new work commissioned specifically for the orchestra.
