Chicago can't get enough of La Havana Madrid! Created by Sandra Delgado, this vibrant, music-heavy play enjoyed sold-out runs at Steppenwolf and Miracle Center earlier in the year, and now arrives at the Goodman's Owen Theatre for a summerlong run.
La Havana Madrid tells the story of the Lakeview Latinx Nightclub, a Chicago hotspot that catered the city's burgeoining Puerto Rican, Cuban and Colombian immigrants through the 1960s and 70s. Leading the cast is Sandra Delgado herself as the club's emcee, who weaves together the show's boisterous salsa and mambo numbers (all played live Roberto 'Carpacoh' Marin and his band Carpacho y Su Super Combo) and the stories of the Lakeview Latinx's staff and patrons. Cheryl Lynn Bruce directs this Goodman staging.
