The Wolves

The Wolves at Owen Goodman Theater

Why see The Wolves?

The stirring new play that celebrates teenage girls

Sarah DeLappe's teenage soccer training drama made waves in New York when it premiered off-Broadway at The Playwrights Realm in 2016, with accolades going towards the frenetic training sequences happening on-stage by the cast. Winning the American Playwriting Foundation's inaugural Relentless Award, The Wolves was also a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Yale Prize. The struggles of girls are rarely depicted on stage without focus shared with men, and thus the majority of the play takes place between nine young women who in between training, discuss everything from periods to politics, often putting friendships on the line in the process.

If Teen Vogue was a play.....

Tackling everything wrong in the world from their patch of Astroturf, these outspoken players are determined to be heard - and determined to up their game, in every aspect of the word. DeLappe's powerful drama was written on a phone on the subway after attending an art exhibition. By staying clear of stereotypes of young women, she succeeded in creating a distinct group of differing characters, whose voices and personalities lift way above the pitch and for us to see them as individuals.

Absolutely stunning

From the scenic design to the directing, to the acting of the incredible cast, you don't want to miss this unique, heart-wrenching play. The soccer skills alone are worth seeing! Sarah DeLappe's work was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and with good reason. If you were ever, have, or loved a teenage girl, you'll relate to how silly, deep, inquisitive, and well- rounded these characters are. The all woman cast is absolute perfection, and it's 90 minutes of incredible theatre. You don't want to miss it. ... Read more
