Why see On Your Feet!?

Broadway-bound Latin rhythms HIT Chicago!

Never mind Jay-Z and Beyonce, the Estefans were the original superstar music couple. She is one of the biggest selling singers of all time, while he's the mastermind producer behind dozens of massive names. What's better still is the story of their rise to fame, a true rags to riches tale, which is as close to the American dream as you can get. On Your Feet! is a new Jukebox musical which charts their careers and relationship, all soundtracked by Estefan's genre-defining greatest hits, including Rhythm is Gonna Get You and Words Get in the Way, as well as some all-new tracks.

The show will begin Broadway previews on October 5th, following this month long try-out in Chicago. In the director's chair is two time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, La Cage Aux Folles), while the choreography comes courtesy of Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).

What is On Your Feet About?

On Your Feet! follows the life and career of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, two Cuban immigrants who rose to global prominence whilst never losing sight of their cultural heritage or their love for each other.

Gloria Estefan began her career in the band Miami Sound Machine, who released their debut album Live Again/Renancer in 1977. With their Latin-influenced synth-pop and disco, the group hit the big time in the eighties with tracks including Rhythm is Gonna Get You, Conga and Dr. Beat. Estefan later pursued a highly successful music and movie career, earning seven Grammys in the process, and miraculously overcame a potentially paralysing broken back in 1990. All this time she was supported by her husband Emilio, a massive name in the Latin music industry, who also helped shape the careers of Ricky Martin, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

An Amazing Do Not Miss Event in Chicago!

This was an Early Father's Day gift for my hubby (a musician & fellow fan of the Estefan's). We met up after work at the North & Halsted Red line which we took to Lake St. Only a 20 min ride & we were only 2 blocks from the theater after exiting the train. We walked around, saw the Picasso, walked by a few stores & settled in to wait for the 6:45pm admittance to the theater with a bag of Garrett's popcorn. When we entered the theater we were amazed at its beauty. So far so good. We were awe struck from the very beginning. The cast was phenomenal. The music was, not only live, but seriously on point! The voices - just WOW! The story (what a story it is!) is beautifully written & wonderfully told. The dancing - extraordinary. A very moving tale that one must see to truly appreciate. We laughed, cried, danced & of course sang our hearts out. The standing "O" was much deserved. We also got to meet the amazing couple afterward (& Rita Moreno - AHH) & got autographs! A MUST SEE! ... On Your Feet : Indeed !

A truly inspiring and compelling story! Wit, romance and the MUSIC! The Rhythm is gonna get you, more than once during this show. The foundation of the show is the orchestra and musical director Jorge Casas who drives the infectious rhythm via vintage Fender P-Bass. The percussion section was precise and relaxed at the same time. Timbales and conga basking in the Cuba Libre. The horn section was smooth as glass and opened up the score during scene changes and segues. The story moves along easily as told though infectious song and colorful choreography. Here is where we see truly gifted performers deliver non-stop movement and shimmering harmonies. Christie Prades (Gloria) and Mauricio Martinez (Emilio) are instantly lovable leads with charisma to spare. Whether in harmony, counterpoint or solo, superb performances by both. The supporting cast and dancers are joy to watch. Don't miss this one. Get on Your Feet! ... Read more

One of the Season's Best!

We enjoyed this show so much! Of course the music is fantastic, but combine that with amazing performances and glorious choreography and you have a winner! Became emotional at the sheer artistry and entertainment of it all. As soon as we left the theater, we walked right up to the box office and bought tickets to the July 28th performance. I can't wait to see it again! ... Read more
