Italian conductor extraordinaire Riccardo Muti leads Beethoven's thrilling Ninth Symphony
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and its fearless music director Riccardo Muti have spent their 2019/20 season celebrating the 250th anniversary of classical and romantic era giant Ludwig van Beethoven and what better way to bring the season to a close than with a rafting-clearing performance of the composer's soaring Ninth Symphony AKA the symphony to end all symphonies!?
Joining forces with the Chicago Symphony Chorus as well as a host of celebrated guest vocalists from the international opera world, the ensemble will pay the ultimate tribute to Beethoven during the finest symphony ever written. A truly triumphant masterpiece, it is the greatest summit of his achievements and was written when he was profoundly deaf - meaning he would have never heard it performed in his lifetime. The symphony's 'Ode To Joy' finale is universally adored as a musical symbol of hope, fellowship and unity amongst men to this day.
